The Welland Partnership was originally created in 2000 between five councils in the rural East Midlands; namely
- East Northamptonshire Council
- Harborough District Council
- Melton Borough Council
- Rutland County Council
- South Kesteven District Council
The partnership worked together effectively on a number of e-government projects until 2005 - See OTHER PROJECTS
In 2006 four of the partners chose to continue to work together with shared services and with grant funding from the East Midlands Centre of Excellence has successfully developed the following.
The Welland Procurement Unit, a procurement shared service providing advice and guidance for the partner authorities of East Northamptonshire, Harborough, Melton and Rutland. Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and Blaby District Council joined the service in 2007.
The Welland Internal Audit Consortium, an internal audit shared service for East Northamptonshire, Harborough, Melton and Rutland.
Early in 2008 a Legal Services shared service between Harborough and Melton has been put into place.
